Hospitals could save millions of dollars by hiring clinical nurse specialists [Canada]

"A clinical nurse specialist is an advanced practitioner who holds a master's or doctoral degree from a nursing program and has expertise in a clinical nursing specialty.

Gauthier has a doctorate and is a clinical nurse specialist in palliative care. He says studies have shown hospitals that employ even eight clinical nurse specialists can save $5 million to $6 million a year if they implement programs developed by nursing specialists. The salaries of the advanced nurses would be about $1 million, with a significant payback in reduced hospital expenses."
