"Rep. Cary Pigman, R-Avon Park, filed a bill (HB 27A) on Wednesday that would expand the drug-prescribing powers of advanced-registered nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Pigman, a physician, and other supporters argue the bill could help expand access to care, particularly in rural areas. But the powerful Florida Medical Association and other physician groups have long fought such proposals, saying in part that nurse practitioners and physician assistants don't have the same level of training as doctors."
