Plan for nurses would improve access to care [OH]
Posted almost 10 years ago by Nicholas M Perrino
"House Bill 216 asks that advanced-practice registered nurses be allowed to practice to their full scope of training. Ohioans should not be shocked that physician groups are opposing this bill. Physicians have believed and continue to believe that they need to direct and/or control the care of all Ohioans.
Many studies have shown that the care delivered by advanced-practice registered nurses is just as good and, in some cases, better than that of physicians.
In 2010, the Institute of Medicine published recommendations in 'The Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health' and recommended that states remove barriers to practice so that all advanced-practice registered nurses can practice to their highest level of training.
Several states already have done this; Ohio lags behind the times.
It is time to modernize Ohio's nurse-practice act so that Ohioans have increased access to high-quality, cost-effective care delivered by advanced-practice registered nurses."
